I had the pleasure of working alongside Jamie, providing "expert" analysis of Gillingham Football Club's matches during the 2006-2007 season. As an ex player of the club I imagined this to be something relatively straightforward, enabling me to show my incisive knowledge of the game. It turned out to be not quite like that. The work involved not only being familiar with the technical requirements of radio; it also required having an encyclopaedic knowledge of all the teams and their players in the division.

I was grateful therefore for Jamie's expertise in both matters. His ability to commentate on the often quickly-changing game in front of him at quick speed, gave me a real insight into the demands required of commentators, and a real respect for Jamie at how he seemed to make it look effortless. That he combined it with a wit and easy camaraderie only underlined his high skill factor.

Our efforts, as a lauded double act that season, won us a few friends along the way and I can honestly say that though I might have shared top billing, I was indebted to his professional ability and stood very much on his shoulders for the privilege.
